The DOG - Deutschen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft (German Ophthalmological Society) - is the medical-scientific association for ophthalmology in Germany. It has more than 7,500 members, most of them scientists, doctors and researchers. The aim of DOG is to support education and scientific progress in ophthalmology and to transfer new findings into the everyday life of clinics and practices.
In 2018, the DOG Congress attracted 4,350 participants - 2,700 of whom were professionals. Sunday, the "Digital Sunday", was completely dedicated to the topic of Big Data. 118 exhibitors presented their innovations and products at the accompanying industrial exhibition on 2,300 m² of exhibition space. The main theme of the DOG Congress 2019, the 117th congress in the history of DOG, is "Ophthalmology: Our profession with a future" (Augenheilkunde: Unser Fach mit Zukunft). The Digital Forum will provide a platform for discussing questions on big data, digital applications and data security.
In 2018, visitors were able to follow over 1,150 scientific contributions and participate in 259 sessions. Also in 2019, the congress will offer a wide range of symposia, scientific lectures, awards ceremonies, poster sessions and courses. There will also be new formats in the form of "Highlights in Translational Science" sessions. Admission is free for retired members, honorary members, students and PhD students.
