Frankfurter Buchmesse 2026

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world's most important international trade fair for books, media, and publishing, and takes place annually in October at the exhibition grounds in Frankfurt am Main. It was founded in 1949 and has since developed into a central meeting place for publishers, authors, agencies, media companies, rights dealers, and reading enthusiasts from all over the world.

The focus is on the following main topics:

• Book publications and publishing with new releases in fiction, non-fiction, children's and young adult books, and specialist literature
• Rights and license trading between agencies, publishers, and literary representatives from around the world
• Events and event programs such as readings, book signings, discussions, and panels on current topics
• Digital media, innovation, and publishing technologies with a focus on future solutions in the book and media sector
• Cultural exchange and guest country programs, including guest of honor presentations and international literature projects

The last Frankfurt Book Fair attracted around 238,000 visitors from more than 130 countries, as well as around 4,350 exhibitors presenting their books, products, and services. In addition, over 7,800 media representatives attended to report on the event.

In addition to the trade fair exhibition, the highlights of the Frankfurt Book Fair include signature events such as the German Book Prize award ceremony, international guest country programs, major author readings, a variety of panel discussions, and the public reading festival “Open Books” throughout the city. The combination of a business platform and a cultural literature festival makes the Frankfurt Book Fair an indispensable event in the international literature and media calendar.
